Spec Ads

Concepting ads is fun for me. I like to keep my creativity in shape by giving myself briefs for random industries or products I don’t work in. Then I mock them up. Here are some highlights for Duo Lingo, Roomba, Yeti Bottle Openers and Play It Again Sports.

Duo Lingo

Avoiding embarrassing situations abroad

Insight: I use hyperbole to highlight how subtle differences between two words in another language can have vastly different meanings. These ads remind people they haven’t tackled the languages they’ve been meaning to learn.

iRobot

Roomba is ready to work

Insight: Roombas are still a novelty 20+ years after the first robotic vacuum cleaners hit the market. These ads highlight functional benefits like convenience, value and performance.

Yeti Bottle Openers

Ads for a bottle opener? Why not?

Insight: Yeti customers don’t turn away from a challenge/ a lot of conversation happens when people share experiences in the wilderness.

Play It Again Sports

Encouraging people to sell their gently used sports gear

Insight: Maybe it’s regional from growing up in Ohio, but Play It Again Sports is a mecca of gently used sporting goods for young athletes. They’ll buy your gear and sell it to a kid dreaming about it.
